Keeping your kids entertained during the school holidays can be a challenge, finding an activity they will enjoy, that will keep them engaged and happy whilst also maybe not fighting with their siblings for 5 minutes can be a full time job in itself.
But baking is a wonderful activity to do with your kids these school holidays and one you can do easily with our delicious yet super simple baking mixes. But the best part is that it can be 2 or more activities in 1 and here is some of our tips on how to make this happen.
- 1st activity is baking cookies, this can be something the kids do by themselves (with your supervision) or with you as a family. Our chocolate chip cookies don't require a stand mixer just a bowl and a spoon or spatula. The kids love getting to add the ingredients and mix it all together. But they also love to roll the balls for the cookies
- You can extend activity 1 by finding different chocolates etc in your cupboard to add on top for decorations. Things like m&ms, smarties, freckles or even sprinkles can be added before cooking these. And kids love getting creative like with smarties adding the different colours ontop. It also lets them have the independence and creativity to pick where to put them and what colours or pattern they want.
- 2nd Activity, once they are baked, cooled and ready to eat you can set yourself up outside or even in if the weather isn't nice for a picnic. You don't need anything fancy even a few towels on the floor can be a picnic rug. Plus you may even get to enjoy a coffee and cookie while the kids are enjoying the picnic too.
- You can extent activity 2 by letting the kids get creative with the picnic as well. Let them get some plates, cups, napkins and even create some name places with a piece of paper and some colouring pencils. Ask them to set it up ready for the picnic to be ready. Depending on the age it could be a teddy bears picnic. Or you could take your picnic to the park to enjoy after a play on the equipment.
Baking is just 1 way to have an activity but there is so many more ways to stretch out your baking mixes to get multiple activities from 1 mix.
And your kids won't even know they are learning anything at all! Yet they are learning invaluable life skills and helping their fine motor skills at the same time.
Not to mention the core memories you are making together.
