The One Simple Tip That Will Instantly Make Your Cookies Look Better

Sometimes it’s the smallest tweaks that make the biggest difference in baking and this one’s a game changer when it comes to cookies 🍪.
If your cookies come out of the oven looking a bit rough, uneven or super bubbly looking, or you want them to have that smoother (because choc chip cookies aren't completely smooth), professional finish this tip is for you.
Best of all? It only takes a few seconds. It's something simple, that you do anyway you probably just need to do it a little more.
The Tip: Roll Your Cookies Into Smooth Balls Before Baking
When you’re making cookies using any of our Bake It by Giovannellis Cookie Baking Mixes, try this:
👉 Roll each cookie dough ball in the palms of your hands until the outside is smooth-ish.
That’s it. No special equipment. Just an extra moment of love before baking.
Why It Works:
- Smoother edges = more uniform cookies
- Helps them bake more evenly and rise more consistently
- Gives your cookies a neater finish, especially great if you’re gifting your baked cookies
- Reduces that rough, bumpy surface some cookies get and no need to go around the outside to make them circle as they come out baked into a good round shape
How to Do It:
- Once your cookie dough is made, scoop your dough as usual.
- Roll each scoop between your palms until the surface is smooth like the image below see how the surface is more smooth than if you just scooped it and squished it together into a loose ball
- Place onto a lined baking tray and bake as per your instructions.
Bonus Tip:
You don’t have to go overboard just a few more rolls than usual can make a visible difference. If you’ve been shaping loosely or just scooping and plopping, give this a try next time. You’ll be surprised how much it elevates your cookies!
