Christmas Choc Orange Shortbread Sticks Made with Our Shortbread Baking Mix

Day 2 of our 24 Day advent Calendar Baking Countdown:

Choc Orange Shortbread Sticks are the perfect mix of buttery shortbread, fresh orange and a little chocolate on the ends for that extra something special. This recipe uses our Shortbread Baking Mix and a few simple ingredients to create a bright, zesty and delicious goodie that is perfect for Christmas, events or an easy homemade gift.

I recently made these for an event and everyone absolutely loved them. They are quick to prepare, easy to shape and bake in under ten minutes which makes them ideal for busy days or last minute baking.

What You Need

How to Make Choc Orange Shortbread Sticks

Make your Shortbread Baking Mix as normal. When you add in the eggs ect, also add the orange juice and zest then mix as per the instructions on the instruction card.

Once combined roll the dough between baking paper until it is about half to three quarter centimetre thick. You do not need to measure exactly, just make sure the dough is not too thin.

Use a sharp knife to cut long strips about half a centimetre wide. You can measure with a ruler if you like but I honestly just eyeball it they don't have to be 100% perfect. Cut them in half to make shorter sticks. Trim any uneven edges and re-roll the offcuts so nothing goes to waste.

Bake your shortbread sticks for 6 to 8 minutes. They bake quickly so keep an eye on them. When they come out of the oven they will still be soft so take the chance to gently straighten the edges with your knife if needed to make them straighter.

Let the shortbread cool completely. Melt a couple of rows of chocolate and dip one end of each stick. Do not push too hard as shortbread can break easily when handled so be gentle or use a spoon to pour over if you are worried. Sprinkle a little fresh orange zest over the melted chocolate before it sets.

Your Choc Orange Shortbread Sticks are ready to enjoy.
