The Sweetest Mother’s Day Gift (That’s So Easy Too!)

Easy Homemade Mother’s Day Gift Idea Using Shortbread Cookies

Every year, I make my mum a jar full of Bake It By Giovannellis Shortbread Cookies for Mother’s Day… and every year, she absolutely loves it.

It’s such a simple gift, but so thoughtful. Homemade, heartfelt, and honestly who doesn’t love cookies?

But if your Mum or parents are anything like mine you struggle with what to buy them and my Mum is not someone who love nick-knacks or wants a present just for the sake of it, she would rather spend time with you at a nice lunch than have expensive gifts etc. So baking Shortbread is a way to have a physical present to give that is her favourite cookie and she will love.

Why Shortbread Cookies Make the Perfect Gift

💛 They only take 9–10 minutes to bake in the oven                                                      💛 Choose between Original Vanilla Shortbread Baking Mix and the new Chocolate Shortbread Baking Mix or do a mix of both!
💛 They taste just like homemade (because they basically are!) and shortbread is that perfectly buttery, not too sweet cookie
💛 They’re so versatile, you can cut them into cute shape you like to fit your occasion
💛 They fit perfectly into a jar or a gift box
💛 And best of all… everyone loves a baked goodie made just for them

How I Gift Them

I always save big glass jars throughout the year, especially ones that would be perfect to repurpose for gifts. Once the cookies are cooled, I stack them neatly into the jar, pop on a ribbon or bow, and sometimes add a little card.

If you don't have one to repurpose you can easily buy an inexpensive jar from your local discount or variety store. There is loads of sizes and shapes available.

This year, I even reused one of our Christmas cards that said, “how sweet it is to be loved by you” – and honestly, even though it’s not Christmas, it just felt perfect for Mother’s Day 🧡. But you can even simply add a simple Kraft Tag with a bow and a hand written note on their too.

Make it a Kids’ Activity Too

This is also such a cute idea if you want to get your kids involved. Let them help bake the cookies for Grandma or Nonna, it’s an activity and a gift all in one.

They’ll feel proud making something special, and the grandparents will love it even more knowing it came from their little ones’ hands.

And a handmade gift is so loved, sometimes the best gifts are the simplest made with love (and butter) 🧡 and it can also be a great way to show someone you care without having to spend too much which at the moment can be a big stressor.
