How to Package Homemade Mother’s Day Gifts Like a Pro

Giving baked goodies as a Mother’s Day gift is not only heartfelt, but also delicious. If you’re baking up a storm with our Baking Mixes, you’re already halfway there! Now it’s time to package your creations in a way that makes them look just as good as they taste.
Whether you're gifting cookies, cupcakes, brownies or shortbread, here are our top tips for packaging home-baked Mother’s Day gifts like a pro.
1. Choose the Right Packaging Supplies
I always head to my local Ronis home depot when I need packaging. They stock a wide range of gift boxes, jars, bags and sealable options that make gift giving easy. You can also check kmart, but I’ve found their stock can be hit or miss, especially close to holiday.
Other great places to try:
-
Discount variety stores
-
Cake decorating or supply stores
-
Online retailers for bulk packs like amazon etc
-
Repurposed jars and boxes from home can be a great way to repurpose, save money and a glass jar they can re-use as well while keeping the cookies fresh
2. Plan Ahead
Before buying anything, consider:
-
What you’re making (e.g., mini cookies, brownies, cupcakes)
-
How many gifts you need
-
The size of each batch or portion
Trust me there’s nothing worse than running out of space or needing to make a second trip to the shops especially mid baking.
3. If in Doubt, Size Up
If you’re unsure on sizes or can’t find the perfect fit, always go a little bigger. You can fill empty space with tissue paper, paper shreds, or extra cookies. But if your box is too small, it simply won’t work and you’ll risk squashing your goodies.
4. Use Airtight or Sealable Options
Sealable bags or boxes help keep your baked goodies fresher for longer. Not everything is airtight, so anything to extend freshness is a bonus.
Glass jars also work beautifully especially if you’re gifting Shortbread, Mini Cookies, or Brownie Bites. Just make sure they’re washed thoroughly and completely dry before use and don't have any smells from previous food in there.
5. Bake & Pack Fresh on the Day
Where possible, pack your gifts the same day you’re planning to give them out. Many gift boxes or cookie boxes aren’t airtight, so the fresher your goodies, the better they’ll taste when Mum receives them. Unless it is a glass jar these are usually pretty airtight
6. Get Creative with Packaging Styles
Here are a few fun and beautiful options you can try:
-
Cupcake boxes with windows – perfect for 4 or 6 cupcakes you could even do some carrot cake cupcakes to mix it up
-
Cookie boxes – ideal for stacking a few types of goodies
-
Mini jars or bottles – adorable for shortbread or mini cookies
-
Clear sealable bags – great for cookies and tied with a ribbon
Don’t forget the finishing touches! Add a sweet handwritten card and a ribbon.
